Peter Caton was born in 1960 and has always lived in Upminster, Essex. He is married with two children.

After training as a polymer chemist, he set up his own business testing and manufacturing adhesives. Having sold the manufacturing business in 2018 he is now semi-retired, leaving more time for walking, travel and writing.

Peter has a keen interest in walking, the countryside and conservation and is a member of many environmental organisations. He has stood for the Green Party at local and national elections. His other interests include travelling and football and he is a member of Upminster Methodist Church. Spending time in Devon as well as his Essex home, Peter has season tickets at both West Ham and Torquay United.

Peter has appeared on BBC TV Countryfile & London News, BBC Radio Four Saturday Live & Excess Baggage, BBC Five Live & BBC local radio.

Peter’s  books cover themes of travel, walking, islands, coast, railways and football.
